Here we are again -- happy to feature yet another activity box that has made our lives easier in our respective homeschooling journeys!

I love arts and crafts, especially creating things from scratch; but honestly I can’t find the time to do it consistently because I am juggling so many things -- mommy and wife duties, managing my family business and my other personal businesses on the side also. So I decided to subscribe to the 3-month playbox of Stone Hedge Learners, Inc. (SHL)

Materials

Upon opening the box, I saw all the materials were grouped/separated by week so it made it easier to manage all the supplies. They also included a parent’s manual which was very helpful because they broke down the activities similar to a lesson plan. There were even guide questions that you can ask your child while he/she is doing the activities.

All the materials are organized (activities per week) in separate plastics

Themes

Every month they have different themes to keep the activities interesting. This February they focused on TRANSPORTATION, so the activities revolved around different types of vehicles. They also had special VALENTINE’S DAY activity.

I remember in one of our activities, my daughter kept mimicking the sound of a car and fire truck, then she asked if she could ride the car para magpasyal lang kami. Maganda yung thematic materials para may exposure sila sa iba’t ibang bagay.

Schedule

SHL recommends one activity per day for the schedule, but only Monday-Friday (parang school days). Aminado ako, minsan hindi namin ma-sustain ang daily activities from the play box because it depends on my schedule also. I think that’s a good thing also about homeschooling -- you are not limited to a rigid or strict timeline; you can be flexible.

Fun Activities

Because the activities are always different, I noticed it helps spark the interest and curiosity of my daughter; and it also helps develop different skills!

For example: we did the Valentine's Day activity and she had to identify the shape cut-outs and match them to the outline of a boat on a printed activity sheet. She practiced her dexterity in applying the glue, and she also had to use her visual memory and matching skills to figure out where the shapes should go.

Another time, we did “water play” by dropping different house items (coin, crayon, ball, etc) in a water basin and we saw them either sink or float. Parang intro-level science experiment for toddlers because we are already technically teaching them about buoyancy of objects.

In one activity, we decorated a rocket ship then placed it at the end of a straw. My daughter blew from the straw and it made the rocket ship that “launched” and flew in the air!

Talagang nag-enjoy kaming dalawa sa mga activities, and I feel like the teachers really planned all the activities and choice of materials carefully.

Other Perks

When you subscribe to the playbox, SHL adds you to their personal Viber group. This is where they send additional tips and reminders to the parents about the different activities. It also becomes an open line of communication between the parents and teachers.

They also send you monthly newsletters so you’re updated with the school programs. It’s their way also of keeping the parents involved and informed.

Prices

The cost of the playbox varies depending on your subscription plan. Here is a more detailed price list that I got from SHL. You may message SHL’s Facebook page for more information.

Overall Experience

My daughter is very receptive to playbox activities. She has a lot of fun with all the materials, and I notice that she really learns from them; and that’s why I continue to subscribe to these programs. Natutuwa rin ako and it becomes bonding time for the two of us.

The teachers of SHL are also very passionate. Halatang halata that they really enjoy what they are doing because they are engaging and approachable.

Note:

The MOMspired Tribe is currently partnering with Stone Hedge Learners, Inc. (SHL) for our upcoming webinar “Teacher Mommy / Daddy: Double Hatting as a Parent and Educator During COVID-19” this February 27, 2021 at 10AM. (It’s not too late to register!)

We offered to feature SHL’s playbox as additional exposure for them since Mommy KK had already purchased a 3-month subscription even prior to our partnership.
